Great you are continuing with the team leadership skills development program. You have made it through the tough week 2 managing performance and you have commenced holding one on ones with your employees. These last two weeks were more about management than leadership.
This week we will be turning your team leadership skills up a notch and empowering you to make all of your employees feel valued, we will be doing this by introducing you to the leadership technique - touch points.
Manager and Team Leadership Skills Week 4 Introduction
“It is a real pleasure working for my team manager” is the conversation you hear as you pass the lunchroom.
How do you feel knowing that it was one of your employees talking to a team member from another department? The thought of being valued and receiving recognition for all of the effort that you have put in to support your team gives you a sense of pride.
Creating touch points is about you giving that feeling to your employees on a regular basis, by making them feel valued and important through your actions.
Manager and Team Leadership Skills Program Objectives
In this manager and team leadership skills coaching session we will be looking to develop your team leadership skills and create a plan to commence using touch points to further motivate all of your employees. These manager and team leadership skills will further help you to eliminate poor morale and strengthen you high performance team.

How to Improve Management and Team Leadership Skills - Lead Indicators
Your persistence is inspiring; you are still working to develop your management and team leadership skills after a couple of challenging weeks,
- First you took the Improve Performance Management challenge
- Then you commenced one-on-ones
You may already be seeing some improvements in your team’s performance; the trick to keeping you motivated is to look for lead indicators of future good performance.
What are Lead indicators?
If you are looking at your team’s productivity, you may not be seeing an improvement in productivity despite your recent efforts, that is normal so do not worry. Instead of looking at your team’s performance at this early stage look for changes in behavior that will lead to improved performance in the future. These changes are lead indicators.
For example, you may have talked to some employees about excessive use of breaks and they have stopped abusing breaks, now they are now working for 20 minutes per day this indicates that in the future their performance will improve.
Alternatively, if you are working on improving the performance of your poorest performers and one of your employees improves performance this is a lead indicator – it suggests that in the future, when the rest improve, your team will have a measurable improved performance.
What makes a good leader tip: Talk up the lead indicators with you manager and peers; you deserve to celebrate each incremental success on your journey to improving your leadership effectiveness.
